Hey! – Rob here 👋🏼
Your Daily Health Fix today is about …
An important moment for self congratulation
Today we’re taking a moment to take stock, put things in perspective, and recognise the things that ARE going well.
The journey towards improved health and fitness is just that, a journey. When you’re in the thick of it, and also busy with every day life, sometimes it can seem like progress is slow, or the bigger goal still seems a long way off.
If you’ve been reading my posts for a while, you’ll know that I recommend tracking your new health promoting habits, not only to keep you focussed, or to allow for review of your approach, but also to give a framework for the process and to enable you to recognise the intermediate goals – and with that allowing you to celebrate those small wins.
It’s time for self-affirmation
If you’re already reading this, why not take a moment right now to think about the tiny habits, 1% gains, and progress over time that you can congratulate yourself over.
Have you implemented a micro habit to make one of the bigger habits easier to maintain?
Perhaps you’re making use of positive obstacles and you’re becoming more consistent with the health promoting activities that you previously struggled to keep up?
Or maybe you’ve been using our Habit Tracking Templates and you’re on a winning streak?
Whatever the small wins are, and even if the grand goal is still some distance away, its important to allocate time to review, but most importantly to zoom out, and look at where you were a month ago, or 3, or maybe even a year, and then acknowledge what you have already achieved.
I regularly have this very conversation with clients when they are feeling like their efforts aren’t paying off. Then, I remind them of what they couldn’t do a month ago, or 6 months ago, or I point out that even though their weight seems to have plateaued, their waist circumference or clothes size is still on a downward trend. They quickly realise that actually, despite this moment of downheartedness, there is plenty to celebrate, be grateful for, and many reasons to stay optimistic with regard to their continued progress.
So if you haven’t already, take a moment recognise the small wins of last week, the progress made in the last month, and the huge leap and improvements in your health and fitness from where you were 6 months ago.
I’d love to hear from you about what small wins you are celebrating this week and what challenges you still face – just hit reply and let me know!
. . . That’s it for this dose,
Until the next time – Stay Motivated!💪🏼
Rob
