Encouraging you to eat liver – ‘Why?’ . . .
On the Menu:
Lambs Liver – Flash Sear and Eat the Steaks, or blend into a Pâté with butter or boiled eggs.
Why organ meats may be natures real superfood:
It may be hard to believe, but Liver offers us more nutrients than any fruit or vegetable can provide, and doesn’t come with the allergenic defence chemicals that leaves and roots contain, or the sugar that is present in higher quantities in most fruits.
To name a few, Vitamins A, B2 B3, B6, B9, B12, C; Zinc, Copper, Iron, Phosphorous, Choline and Selenium are all found plentifully in liver, – often micronutrients that western populations are deficient in. Even a small serving can significantly fill in the gaps in your nutrition. These nutrients are crucial for maintaining healthy tissues including organ function, cognition, skin, sex hormones and immune system.
An Added Bonus –
It’s cheap! Western society has long forgotten the hidden value of organ meats, and as a result the price is low compared to prime muscle cuts.
What to watch out for:
Whilst many micro-nutrients have no known upper limit for consumption, there may be specific concern about Vitamins A and Copper – pregnant women, and people with known liver or kidney disease may need to be more careful than others. In any case, a little goes a long way. Weekly consumption of a very small quantity may be all that you need.
If Liver doesn’t do it for you, try including small fish like sardines, herring or mackerel into your repertoire. They offer similar nutritional value and are also low cost and excellent value for money.
