Hey! – Rob here
Your Daily Health Fix today is about …
The ‘before I’ trick . . .
What it is:
The before I trick uses the ‘positive obstacles’ tactic that we spoke about previously to create a set of triggers for adopting a new habit by pegging it to something that is already routine.
Why it works:
The technique is effective because it helps motivate and remind you to perform the action you wish to take, without the distraction of other activities.
Try this:
Let’s say you want to get into the habit of stretching your lower back at the end of each day. You could pair this activity with brushing your teeth (as this activity probably happens every evening anyway).
1. Say to yourself aloud – ‘Before I brush my teeth I will lie down and stretch my back’ –
2. Set a timer for 1 minute, and then repeat out loud the ‘Before I’ statement.
3. Repeat the timer one more time, and repeat your pledge to yourself.
When you go to clean your teeth in the evening, the chances are high that the reminder will be triggered and you can perform your stretches.
Use this technique for any task or habit that you are trying to attain or complete and regularly forget to do.
. . . That’s it for this dose,
Until the next time – Stay Motivated!💪🏼
