Hey! – Rob here
Ā
Your Daily Health Fix today is about …Ā
Breaking down larger goals and celebrating throughout the process.
A common stumbling block:
Two thoughts that often add friction to self motivation are either setting tasks that are overwhelming in size (or are simply too time consuming to do repeatedly every day for the long term), OR that the long term outcome is something that will only be seen after weeks or months of consistent input – meaning that in the here and now itās difficult to see or feel like youāre doing anything effective at all.
An easy fix:
Ask yourself (in relation to the habit or subject), āWhat is the largest amount of āthe thingā that I can complete today, recover from (physically or mentally) and come back to do it all again tomorrow. – And what ever it is (and however small it may be or trivial it may feel), DO THAT.
Remember this angle:
Itās important to celebrate the small wins. Count the number of days in a row you can consistently show up and do āthing xā. Celebrate that.
Then zoom out, and look at where you are today compared to a week, a month or a year ago. Youāll recognise that āthing xā has gotten easier, or youāve altered it to be more complex. (In the context of health you might notice youāve got stronger, improved endurance, lost weight, optimised co-ordination, boosted energy – as a few typical examples).
Simply show up, every day, do the largest amount you can cope with and recover from, and show up again tomorrow. Be proud of that. – THE BIGGER TARGETS WILL LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES AND THEN CREEP UP ON YOU, SEEMINGLY WITHOUT EFFORT AT ALL.
. . . That’s it for this dose,
Ā
Until the next time – Stay Motivated!šŖš¼
